Dr Graham Vickery, psychiatrist, guilty of unsatisfactory professional conduct

Dr Vickery is a consultant psychiatrist who regularly provides medico-legal reports on behalf of an insurance company, reportedly assessing and reporting on around 20 clients each week. He works as a consultant psychiatrist in a private clinical practice in Broadmeadow, and subsequently in Cooks Hill and Sydney locations.

In April 2020 the Ageing and Disability Commission notified the Health Care Complaints Commission of an anonymous complaint concerning Dr Vickery’s conduct in relation to a patient he treated from 1980 to 2020.

Dr Vickery was found guilty of unsatisfactory professional conduct by the Medical Professional Standards Committee because he prescribed medications which were not for purposes within the scope of his practice as a psychiatrist. Further, he failed to make and keep adequate records.

The Committee reprimanded Dr Vickery and the doctor is now subject to conditions including that he should practise under supervision and submit to an audit of his medical records within 12 months. The decision can be viewed here.
