Senior Litigation Lawyer – Transition to Practice Lead

We are seeking a senior litigator capable of operating with authority, commercial judgment, and leadership maturity.

This position will commence at Senior Associate or Special Counsel level and is designed to transition into Practice Lead of our Commercial & General Litigation department within six months.

This role may be based in our Newcastle or Central Coast office, depending on the successful candidate’s location and client base.

The Opportunity

You will be entrusted to:

  • Run and develop the Commercial & General Litigation department
  • Manage complex and high-value disputes independently
  • Make settlement and strategic recommendations with confidence
  • Mentor and supervise junior lawyers
  • Drive referral relationships and departmental growth
  • Contribute to financial performance and reporting

About You

You will likely bring:

  • 5+ years PAE with substantial litigation experience
  • Strong commercial judgment and independent decision-making capability
  • Confidence in managing complex matters end-to-end
  • The ability to mentor and lead junior practitioners
  • A strategic mindset and interest in practice growth
  • Specialist accreditation (or willingness to obtain it) highly regarded

As our firm continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced solicitor in personal injury to join our Newcastle team. 

The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for a solicitor with 3–5 years post-admission experience who is looking to take the next step in their career within a supportive and high-performing personal injury practice. Our range of matters include:

  • Medical negligence
  • Public liability
  • Work injury damages
  • Motor vehicle accidents
  • Institutional abuse
  • Malicious prosecution
  • General litigation

This role offers significant client contact, advocacy opportunities and the ability to contribute to the continued growth of our personal injury practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing a varied caseload of personal injury matters
  • Preparing matters for hearings, mediations and settlement conferences
  • Drafting and collating briefs to barristers and expert witnesses
  • Liaising with clients, barristers, experts and other legal professionals
  • Attending court appearances, mediations and conferences
  • Identifying and engaging appropriate experts across a range of litigation matters
  • Contributing to marketing initiatives, blogs, webinars and business development activities
  • Supporting knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within the team

About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • 3–5 years PAE with experience in personal injury litigation
  • Experience in the Personal Injury Commission and/or District Court (highly regarded)
  • IRO Approved Lawyer status (preferred but not essential)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent advocacy and dispute resolution abilities
  • A proven ability to manage files efficiently and achieve positive client outcomes
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • The ability to mentor and work collaboratively with team members
  • A proactive approach to networking, marketing and practice development
  • Experience with LEAP Legal Software (advantageous)
