Our client, Ms D, attended a grocery store to do some shopping when she suffered a serious slip and fall accident. As she walked through the store towards the cat food aisle, her foot slipped on a colourless liquid that had leaked from a spilled detergent bottle in a nearby aisle, causing her to fall heavily onto her left knee. Store staff attended to Ms D immediately following the incident. It was subsequently discovered that detergent had leaked from a damaged or spilled bottle and spread across the floor into the aisle where Ms D was walking.
As a result of the fall, Ms D sustained a serious fracture to her left patella (kneecap). She was transported by ambulance to John Hunter Hospital, where she underwent surgery. Following her hospital admission, she required a further period of inpatient rehabilitation to assist with her recovery.
Prior to the accident, Ms D was an active retiree and volunteered her time at John Hunter Hospital. The injury significantly affected her mobility, independence and ability to participate in her usual activities.
Ms D contacted The Law Office of Conrad Curry seeking advice regarding her rights and entitlements. Following our investigations, we pursued a public liability claim against the grocery store, alleging that reasonable precautions had not been taken to identify and remove a foreseeable slipping hazard from the store floor.
Through careful investigation, the gathering of supporting evidence and direct negotiations with the insurer, we were able to successfully resolve the claim without the need to commence court proceedings. Our efforts resulted in an excellent settlement outcome for Ms D, providing compensation for the injuries she suffered and the significant impact the accident had on her life.
The Law Office of Conrad Curry is dedicated to helping people who have been injured in avoidable slip and fall accidents obtain the compensation they deserve.
