Staff Story: Julie Woods

I was born in Kogarah, lived in Tasmania for 20 years, and then moved to Queensland in 1990.  I travel to and from Newcastle as required (COVID restrictions permitting).

Growing up in a musical family, I took up playing Tuba from the age of 8 and participated in community brass bands.  I was always told I was “too little” or that “girls don’t play tuba”, and my persistence to prove people wrong has driven me in everything I do from that point forward.  In 1976, at the age of 16, I was proudly the first female in Australia to play professionally on my instrument.  However, I eventually decided to continue as a hobby which then provided me with performance opportunities throughout Australia, New Zealand, Manilla, Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong, and the United Kingdom.  I found it great to travel whilst doing something that I loved and meeting like-minded people.

I always had an interest in law from when I was young, however my life choices took me in a different direction, working in a variety of administrative based jobs and eventually running my own business for 21 years in experiential education.  During my 40 years of work history, I became very interested in making positive change.  I love a good challenge and being stretched to learn new things and make a difference.  This led me to becoming a Business Consultant in 2018 and working with The Law Office of Conrad Curry before joining the team exclusively in November 2020.  This was one of my best decisions yet.  I love the passion of the workplace and the people here, and there’s always something happening to keep me very motivated.
