The Health Care Complaints Commission (HCCC) has issued a Permanent Prohibition Order against Mr Andreas Pantziaros, effective from 6 June 2024. This decision follows serious misconduct involving impersonating a paramedic and providing unqualified emergency services.
Complaint Details
Mr Pantziaros operated a vehicle and wore a uniform resembling those of NSW Ambulance, misleading the public. Through his company, Medic Corp Ambulance, he offered emergency response services for a fee and conducted first aid training despite lacking proper qualifications. His vehicle was twice defected by police, and he was previously warned by AHPRA about using the title “Paramedic.” He was convicted of impersonating an emergency services officer.
Breach of Conduct
The HCCC found Mr Pantziaros breached the following clauses of the Code of Conduct for non-registered health practitioners:
- Clause 3(1): Failing to provide health services in a safe and ethical manner.
- Clause 3(2)(b): Providing healthcare outside his experience or training.
- Clause 3(2)(c): Offering services he is not qualified to provide.
- Clause 12(1): Engaging in misinformation or misrepresentation regarding his qualifications and services.
Commission’s Decision
The HCCC has permanently banned Mr Pantziaros from providing any health services to protect public health and safety. This includes offering emergency services, wearing misleading uniforms, or using vehicles resembling NSW Ambulance.
Why This Matters
This case underscores the importance of proper qualifications and the severe consequences of impersonating healthcare professionals.
